Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made a decision on the future of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen who has entered the final months of his contract.
Petersen has been at Chiefs since joining from Bidvest Wits in 2021 and enjoyed mixed fortunes as he has been in and out of the team during that period.
However, his stock has risen this season, becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, backing it up with impressive performances that have seen him keep nine clean sheets in the PSL, the highest in the division.
What has Chiefs decided about Petersen?
He has been rewarded with the captain’s armband and that backing is set to continue with talks underway to tie him to a new contract beyond this season.
According to SABC, Chiefs have an option to extend Petersen’s deal by a further year but intend to hand him fresh terms since he has become a key player at the club.
“Talks will be starting soon regarding a potential new contract for the skipper,” SABC presenter Mazola Molefe said on Soccer Zone on Monday.
“He has impressed, I am meant to believe, and told on good authority that there are no plans to let Brandon Petersen leave Amakhosi at the end of the season or at any moment. He is the no.1 and the skipper.”

Petersen has played 66 matches for Chiefs during his stay at Naturena and kept 29 clean sheets but has become more important this season, playing all but one match, and he has 11 clean sheets in 18 games across all competitions in 2025-26.
The desire to give Petersen a new contract means Chiefs will likely not be going in the market for a new goalkeeper despite being linked with a host of names last season and before the start of this term.
Petersen had to fight out to win his place in the team as Chiefs started last season with new signing Fiacre Ntwari in goal before he briefly came in only for Bruce Bvuma to take over for the rest of the campaign.
