Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo feels Kaizer Chiefs left-back Brandley Cross should have been dropped from the final World Cup squad for more midfielders and attackers.

Cross is the only Chiefs player who made it to the final squad but with three left-backs, as many right-backs and five centre-backs in Hugo Broos’ team, Mlambo feels Cross and Nkosinathi Sibisi should have been axed.

“I’d choose (Khulumani) Ndamane over (Nkosinathi) Sibisi because he’s young. Sibisi was given a run at AFCON we saw what happened and he was not playing at Pirates if there was a Mbokazi, we could’ve (added) in attack. I would’ve left Sibisi and (Bradley) Cross,” Mlambo said on NXL360 YouTube Channel as per KickOff.

Kaizer Chiefs right-back Thabiso Monyane has recounted his first season at the club, having joined as a free agent from Orlando Pirates. Monyane made 20 appearances for Chiefs as they finished third last season and he has a message to the Khosi Nation.

“Through every high and low, you stood by us. That’s not something I’ll ever take for granted,” he posted on Instagram.

“This season taught me so much. We didn’t get everything right, but we grew. I’ll take every lesson from this year and use it to come back stronger, sharper, and better for the badge next season. Thank you for the belief, the support, and the family spirit. I’m proud to be part of Amakhosi.”

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande insists that the club’s next coach must be a big and respected personality who can deal with egos within the squad.

“What the club really needs right now is a manager with the presence to manage big egos without losing control of the dressing room,” Katsande told FARPost.

“Someone who commands respect, treats the players well, but doesn’t shy away from setting standards. Most importantly, someone who can change the culture by bringing a winning mentality and making it the baseline expectation every week.”
