Kaizer Chiefs have been urged to go for former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Lucas Ribeiro who will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Ribeiro made a name for himself in South Africa when he shone for the Brazilians before his controversial departure last summer, forcing a move out without the club’s agreement, and later signing for Spanish second division side Cultural Leonesa.

“He is the man that Kaizer Chiefs should take a bold step and put their hat on and make it as marquee signing,” said SoccerBeat’s Peter Du Toit.

“It will lift the entire fanbase, it would show they mean business, if it comes across the line, he would improve the team and the current players would play better with a man like him in the team. He could give you 10, 12 goals in the season. I would move Lilepo to the left where he can cut in and use his strong shot and also find those passes from Ribeiro.”

Kaizer Chiefs are faced with a dilemma ahead of the Soweto Derby as four players are on three yellow cards ahead of their next three games before the meeting with Pirates.

Mfundo Vilakazi, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Flavio Silva and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo are a caution away from missing the next match but with games against TS Galaxy, Magesi FC and Polokwane City before the derby, they have to be managed carefully so that they are available for the clash with Pirates.

The challenge is which game would be ‘suitable’ to receive a booking and be available for the derby?

Could goalkeeper Brandon Petersen be available or Chiefs this weekend? This is the question among fans after he was spotted in training on Thursday.

Petersen has not played since the final week of February, when he missed the Soweto Derby due to injury, with Bruce Bvuma standing in but his understudy has not covered himself in glory.

Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef said Petersen is set to return soon but it is not certain if Sunday’s match with TS Galaxy will be too soon.
