Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef says Thashreeq Morris’ introduction in their win over Sekhukhune United was well-planned despite the striker not playing for one year.

Morris netted a late goal as Chiefs went on to win 2-0, having come on moments earlier, in what was his first league game since the final match of the 2024-25 season.

“Morris is one of our players; he’s working very hard in training sessions,” Ben Youssef said as per iDiski Times. “We were waiting until the right moment and I think this was the right moment to introduce him to the team.”

“And we discussed with him the importance of this game. Like I said, people are working behind us [behind the scenes] to prepare this player,” he added.

Kaizer Chiefs are closing in on their best PSL campaign since the 2019-20 season after crossing the 50-point mark.

Chiefs, who have not finished inside the top three since that season, are assured third place this term and have hit 51 points from 28 games, already more than the last five seasons.

If they win their remaining two games, they will hit 57, matching the tally achieved six years ago when they finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef is not resting on his laurels even after confirming third place which will come with a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

The Soweto giants are assured third place after their 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday although they have two games still to play and their coach wants maximum points from both.

“Now, we have to think still two games – we have to stay focus, to compete to get the maximum points,” he said as per Soccer Laduma. “I think about the game – the player showed very good character today. Very tough mentality after the strong game that we played in three days against Sundowns to repeat.”
