Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has issued a plea to the club’s supporters amid his team’s poor run of form.
Chiefs suffered a 1-0 loss in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, leaving Zambia with a 1-0 loss, inflicted by Red Arrows in the first leg on Saturday.
That extended their winless run to four games while they have managed just one victory in their last seven fixtures.
However, ahead of the return leg on Friday, Da Cruz is calling on the supporters not to abandon him and his players as they look to overturn the deficit.

“We need them on Friday for the game to support us because I know that the team is able to reverse the result,” said Da Cruz as quoted by iDiski Times.
“What is most important is that in difficult moments we must stay united, players, staff, club and supporters to get through this period and get better results.”
The Chiefs coach has also issued a rallying call to his players, telling them that only scoring many goals will save them from an early exit.

“For sure, we need to change something to create more chances. Normally, we create more chances in PSL,” he added.
“It’s the first time that we didn’t create a lot of chances, so we need to analyse and after we need to change something to be able to qualify.”

Khumalo will deputise Jack Maluleke, who retains his mandate as head of the portfolio, and his job will involve providing expertise and advising the committee on key issues, which includes appointment of national team coaches.
The 1998 AFCON winner’s appointment was ratified at a NEC meeting held at a hotel in Johannesburg on Sunday, returning to a key role, having previously worked as assistant coach at Kaizer Chiefs and technical director at Baroka FC.
“In our technical committee, we have reappointed Mr Jack Maluleke as the chair and appointed Doctor Khumalo as the vice chairperson of the SAFA Technical Committee,” SAFA president Danny Jordaan announced via a statement. “I spoke to him, and he is quite happy to serve in this technical committee of SAFA.”
