Cross opens up after World Cup experience

Kaizer Chiefs left-back Bradley Cross has reflected his experience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Bafana Bafana while also breaking down Amakhosi’s focus for the upcoming season. 

Cross recently rejoined his Chiefs teammates after being away with Bafana at the global showpiece, where South Africa made history by reaching the knockout stage for the first time.

The defender was the only Chiefs player to earn a Bafana call-up for the World Cup after producing impressive performances for the Soweto giants in the previous campaign as they finished third on the Premier Soccer League table to qualify for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.

“It was such a great experience and an honour to be part of the team that made history for South Africa. The boys went out there to work hard, and we achieved our goal of advancing from the group phase, and I hope we made our people happy,” he said as quoted by FARPost.

“I can see the vibe in the [Chiefs] squad is very good. The guys are gelling nicely together.

“We are working hard trying to improve every day. I took some days off before I joined the team in Spain… So I’m going to keep going to get ready for the season.

“We just need to work as a team, build on our strengths, iron out our weaknesses, and give our best. It’s pre-season, so no matter the result, we will learn something, and I am looking forward to it,” he added.

Lilepo’s exit close

The exit of DR Congo winger Glody Lilepo from Kaizer Chiefs is reaching its crucial final days, bringing an end to a brief yet successful spell with Amakhosi.

The next few days are set to determine the official wrapping up of what might be one of the surprise moves of the transfer window.

Al Ahly Benghazi has emerged as the destination for the pacey attacker after Amakhosi management agreed on a transfer fee reported to be worth over R17 million with the Libyan outfit, according to KickOff.

Personal terms are understood to have been fully agreed upon by the 28-year-old, leaving a routine medical test in Libya as the final hurdle before he formally puts pen to paper.

Lilepo’s departure brings a premature end to a productive stint at Naturena since arriving from French outfit Valenciennes in January 2025.

During his single full season with the Glamour Boys, the lanky attacker established himself as a key offensive weapon, registering 9 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The writing has been somewhat on the wall for Lilepo’s exit when he was conspicuously omitted from the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain, remaining behind in Johannesburg to facilitate the transfer.

According to Pan-Africa Football, Scottland’s spokesperson George Munengwa revealed the team’s excitement ahead of the clash, stating the clash will provide them with the right competition ahead of the CAF Champions League.

“Playing Kaizer Chiefs will be a highly competitive match which is going to prepare us for the level at which we are going to be playing in Africa,” Munengwa said.

“We are happy as a club, which is three years old, that we are going to be playing Kaizer Chiefs in Rustenburg,” he added.
