Kaze gets another job!

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United coach Cedric Kaze has been unveiled as the new head coach of Kagera Sugar.

Kaze was sacked by Sekhukhune after just six games in charge. He had won two and lost four, but also faced Orlando Pirates thrice during that time.

Last season, Kaze was co-coaching Chiefs alongside Khalil Ben Youssef, guiding them into third place, which saw them qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

But despite their first finish inside the top 8 in three years, Chiefs parted ways with the co-coaches and appointed Fernando Da Cruz.

On Monday, Kaze was unveiled by Kagera Sugar as the new head coach. The Tanzanian Premier League side sit in 15th place, with just two points after six games.

Chiefs get a vital victory

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies are well on course to gain promotion to the elite league after narrowly seeing off Young Achievers FC 2-1 at Duduza Stadium on Sunday.

Amakhosazana amassed an impressive 61 points in their debut season after 25 matches and sit top of the Gauteng Sasol Women’s Provincial League with five rounds of matches still to play.

They are closely followed by Mamelodi Sundowns in second place and Wits University, with the latter two sides having played fewer matches.

Unathi Mabena’s team recorded their 13th unbeaten run on the trot, winning 12 and playing to a single draw while scoring 34 goals in the process.

In their previous match, the Glamour Girls beat Bluebirds Ladies FC 2-0 away and repeated that feat with another win on the road.

Ex-Chiefs defender surprised by Amakhosi.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa has opened up on what surprises him the most about Amakhosi after they dropped points once again in a goalless draw against Golden Arrows.

Lebohang Maboe had a penalty in the first stanza saved by Arrows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa as The Glamour Boys registered their fourth draw of the league season. Only Abafana Bes’thende and Chippa United have drawn more (5) in the division.

Mabotsa says he is mostly surprised by the formation of Fernando Da Cruz, who has consistently played with three centre-backs, even against the so-called small teams.

“They drew again; in terms of expectations, they are not doing well. “I’m surprised (by the formation); I’ve never seen that since I’ve known Chiefs, during our time and even before our generation. We just have to give him time, but at the time the team is not doing well; it’s another thing,” Mabotsa told KickOff.

“Football is three ways: win, lose, or draw, but when we draw (a lot)…we want to see Chiefs up there, competing with Sundowns and Pirates. To be honest, it is not a good run.

“I don’t think they are playing at their best; (maybe) they are still adjusting to the system. You can look around the world; there are very few teams who are playing three at the back,” Mabotsa said.

“It’s always 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1, 4-4-2 or something like that, but not three at the back. For me, they have not performed, but as I said, maybe they are still trying to adjust to the system; at the moment it’s tough,” the former Amakhosi defender added.

Leaner gets thumbs up after outing vs Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has given Renaldo Leaner a thumbs-up after the goalkeeper was handed an opportunity against Golden Arrows.

Leaner was handed his first start for Chiefs in Sunday’s Betway Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium, where he kept a clean sheet as the two sides shared the points.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper joined the Glamour Boys at the start of the season following his unexpected departure from Sekhukhune United. Leaner, who appears to be second in the goalkeeping pecking order at Amakhosi, got his opportunity after Brandon Petersen was ruled out through injury.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper made some important interventions during the match, helping the Soweto giants keep Arrows at bay and secure a point.

Sheppard was quick to acknowledge Leaner’s contribution when asked for his assessment of the goalkeeper’s debut.

“Very good. His leadership at the back, a couple of crucial saves that kept us in the game, very good,” he told the media.

“And that’s why you have a squad; when players get injured and other players step in, they take the chance. So, very happy for him.

“He’s come in with a lot of confidence and patience, so we kept a clean sheet today, so very good for him,” he concluded.
