Latest news about Kaizer Chiefs in the last 24 hours, including a lack of composure at Amakhosi, Hugo Broos told to consider Brandon Petersen, and more.

Sometimes Chiefs lacked composure

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze shied away from faulting the club’s youngsters who were given a starting berth in the defeat to Chippa United in their last Betway Premiership encounter of the campaign.

After fielding a youth-infused line-up including 18-year-old goalkeeper, Takalani Mazhamba – the youngest ‘keeper to debut for Amakhosi in the PSL era, Luke Baartman, Asanele Velebayi and Naledi Hlongwane, Kaze leapt to the youngsters’ defense following the defeat.

Kaze insisted the young four players did not garner enough minutes during the campaign and the club also wanted to give them more top-flight exposure.

“I believe that we started the game well in the front foot. We had a couple of opportunities to put ourselves in a better conditions by scoring , but we couldn’t,” he told the media.

“Sometimes we lacked a little bit of composure, a little bit of decision-making into the final third, into the box, but you know, I understand. The youngsters didn’t have a lot of minutes during the season, but as well we want to give them minutes for them to get confidence, to get experience, and to go up as well.

“We were a little bit victims of transition counter-attack and we couldn’t manage well,” Kaze concluded.

Broos told to give Petersen a chance – ‘there is not a big difference in quality’

Former Chippa United coach Luc Eymael has weighed in on Hugo Broos’ goalkeeping selections for Bafana Bafana, suggesting there is little separating the country’s top shot-stoppers in terms of quality.

“The goalkeepers have been selected from Sundowns, Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, and now you also have Ricardo Goss, who has always been there,” Eymael said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“Most of the time Goss has been part of the squad, along with (Sipho) Chaine and Ronwen Williams. We know Ronwen’s quality already. Normally, it was not the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper (Brandon Petersen) who was in the top three, it was usually Goss.

“But perhaps one day he can give the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper an opportunity because, for me, there is not a big difference in quality between the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and the goalkeeper of Siwelele.”

‘I haven’t seen hell’

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Willard Katsande, who left a lasting impression during his time at the club, has revealed what it was like experiencing his first Soweto Derby.

Having spent 10 years at Naturena, Katsande featured in numerous Soweto Derbies during his career.

Speaking to the Zimbabwean Fanzone Podcast, Katsande explained: “My first game at Chiefs was against Orlando Pirates. It was the MTN final.

“Let me tell you, I haven’t seen hell. Whenever I talk to my kids and my players, I tell them: ‘Don’t worry about 3,000 people. I have seen 100,000 people.’

“Coming from here, I had never played for a big team to understand the life of a big team. It was like the Stadium Management had switched off the lights for me.

“I didn’t see anything. From there, the whistling, to everything.”
