Kaizer Chiefs are hoping that midfielder Lebohang Maboe did not suffer a long-term injury following his setback against Golden Arrows last weekend.

Maboe has been withdrawn from Bafana Bafana’s camp ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after sustaining an ankle injury while featuring for Chiefs against Arrows on Sunday.

Despite reporting for the national team camp on Sunday night in the hope of passing a late fitness test, scans conducted by national team doctor Tshepo Molobi confirmed he was unfit.

“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” Dr. Molobi told SAFA.net.

The blow is a significant one for both club and country but it is Chiefs fearing the worst as it has not been revealed how long he will be out which could be a big blow for the Glamour Boys where he is a key player.

Meanwhile, former Kaizer Chiefs midfield general Tinashe Nengomasha continues to make strides in football management, with the legendary figure being appointed as team manager at Zimbabwean giants CAPS United.

The appointment was unveiled as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the club’s technical structure, with Nengomasha stepping up from his previous role as team manager at Ngezi Platinum FC to one of Zimbabwe’s most storied clubs.

Club president Farai Jere confirmed the new-look technical set-up, which also includes head coach Takesure Chiragwi and assistant Ian Bakala. “Our head coach is Mr. Takesure Chiragwi, assisted by coach Ian Bakala. This marks a new setup for us, and we’re looking to expand our technical team. Nengomasha [Tinashe] will also be coming in as team manager,” said Jere as per KickOff.

CAPS United are targeting a dramatic improvement in 2026 after a disappointing ninth-place finish last season, 26 points behind champions Scotland FC.

Nengomasha, affectionately known as ‘The General’, brings considerable credentials to the role, having won the PSL Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at Kaizer Chiefs in 2004.
