Latest about Kaizer Chiefs in the last 24 hours, including updates on Amakhosi-linked Lucas Ribeiro and Thabo Moloisane, legend compensated for unfair dismissal & more.

Have Chiefs lost Ribeiro race?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa – who was linked to Kaizer Chiefs, is in advanced discussions over a potential move to Libyan giants Al Ittihad Tripoli, in what would set up a reunion with head coach Rulani Mokwena.

The Brazilian forward finds himself at a crossroads after his short-term contract with Spanish second-division side Cultural Leonesa came to an end following the club’s relegation from LaLiga 2.

The drop to the third tier of Spanish football has effectively brought the curtain down on his stint in Spain, opening the door for a new chapter in his career, that appeared to be heading in a positive trajectory when he directly contributed to 60 goals in 88 games for Sundowns over two seasons.

According to iDiski Times, among the early clubs to register interest was Esperance Sportive de Tunis, one of the most decorated clubs on the continent. The Tunis-based outfit were considered frontrunners for a period, but it appears their pursuit may have cooled as a more compelling offer has emerged.

Al Ittihad have tabled a lucrative contract offer for the forward, with talks described as progressing positively, however, there are concerns over the unresolved case with his former club Sundowns, where he terminated his contract, and referred the case for the FIFA Tribunal at the end of last season.

Kaizer Chiefs-linked Moloisane leaves Stellies

Thabo Moloisane will part ways with the Club at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract. He departs with our gratitude and appreciation for his leadership and service over the past three seasons.

“Moloisane has informed Stellenbosch FC of his intention to leave the Club upon the expiry of his contract after spending the last three seasons in the Cape Winelands,” the Stellies website reported.

“The 27-year-old joined the Maroons from Maritzburg United in 2023 and made 115 appearances across all competitions, helping the team win the Carling Knockout, reach back-to-back MTN 8 finals, and qualify twice for the CAF Confederation Cup.

“During his spell with the Maroons, Moloisane emerged as one of the standout defenders in South African football and earned five caps for Bafana Bafana, while also receiving a nomination for the 2024-25 Betway Premiership Defender of the Season award.

“He departs with the Club’s gratitude and appreciation for his leadership and service over the past three seasons,” they concluded.

Chiefs legend compensated after unfair dismissal

Former Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mabedi has received a payout of nearly R1 million following his unfair dismissal as Malawi coach.

Mabedi took charge of the Flames from April 2023 until he was dismissed in October 2024, one month short of his two-year deal.

According to Pan-Africa Football, the Industrial Relations Court ruled that Mabedi should receive $54 200 (R886 000) from the Malawi Football Association (FAM), despite initially ruling he should receive up to $519,000 (R8.4 million).

FAM appealed the decision, which led to the reduced compensation, with the association’s lawyer ruling that it was a fair decision.

“It is a fair decision; however, we would have loved it if the amount had been reduced further,” the lawyer added.
