The final, staged at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, saw Durban City edge TS Galaxy 2–1 in a spirited comeback to clinch their first cup title. The result handed Durban City a historic triumph under interim coach Pitso Dladla’s technical team, with former Chiefs goalkeeper Rowan Fernandez part of the backroom staff that helped guide the team to glory.

“Well done to Bernard Parker and Rowen Fernandez on the Final of the Nedbank Cup 2026, it was great to see you both in coaching positions representing your respective clubs,” he shared on his social media account.

“It was a very proud moment for the Amakhosi Family Kaizer Chiefs, and it was also a great pleasure for me to have shared the field with both of y’all in my illustrious career. I’ve won the tournament on both occasions with y’all as my teammates.

“Congratulations [to] Rowen Fernandez and Durban City on the historic victory,” he concluded.

Cardoso wary of Chiefs threat

Coach Miguel Cardoso has shared his views ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns midweek clash against a well-rested Kaizer Chiefs side.

The two teams meet on Wednesday, 6 May, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in a highly anticipated encounter that could have major implications for the title race.

“But it’s a match, it’s a match to be played with all respect by everybody. Obviously, it’s a match that is quite a big match in South Africa. So, we have to go for it and try to make it in the best way so that we can get the points because we need the points to proceed. That’s it,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“So, the objective is the same, the way we’re going to work through. There’s not a lot of time.

“So, we have two days, and we are playing. For sure, you may imagine that for us, the recovery process is the most important. They didn’t play for a long time. This means that they come with full energy, and we will also be with full energy for sure. That’s good, good match ahead,” Cardoso added.
