Kaizer Chiefs could be one of the teams set for a fight to sign Lucas Ribeiro after the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward became a free agent.

Ribeiro was released by Spanish second division side Cultural Deportiva Leonesa following their relegation, having failed to replicate the form that made him PSL Player of the Year in 2024-25.

The Brazilian scored six goals and added two assists but it was not enough and the club have parted company with him at the end of his contract.

Chiefs have been credited with an interest in Ribeiro before but it has been reported recently that Rulani Mokwena’s Libyan side Al-Ittihad are leading the race to sign him.

According to KickOff, George Matlou is set to leave Kaizer Chiefs after four underwhelming years at Naturena.

Matlou joined Chiefs in 2022 but has managed just 46 games during that period with injuries keeping him out of action most of the time.

He was close to leaving in June 2025 but his deal was surprisingly extended. However, he could only make six appearances in the just-concluded season and that has convinced Chiefs that the best option is to offload him.

Kaizer Chiefs’ expected new coach Fernando Da Cruz will reportedly arrive on June 22 just in time to begin preparations for the club’s pre-season.

Da Cruz is reported to have agreed a two-year deal and will come with at least four members of his technical bench.
