Kaizer Chiefs praised for great shift in mentality – ‘Something is cooking’

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Denis Vukubi has lauded the players for a great shift in mentality which has led to their change in fortunes in their last two matches.

Chiefs have beaten Durban City and Magesi FC in their last two games to end a run of four straight defeats and revive their hopes of sealing CAF Confederation Cup qualification for next season.

Vukubi is happy to see the turnaround and feels the players have now grasped the fact that it is not about how they play at this stage of the season but getting good results consistently.

What has changed at Kaizer Chiefs?

“I think the players have realised that even though they might not have a proper coach they are still at work, and that regardless they are still expected to deliver,” Vukubi told KickOff.

“The coaches have started using the young boys which is good, you can tell that something psychologically has switched. And that’s what I was happy about.

“Regarding the game plan mentally we are doing well so far. Last two games mentally we were fine. Especially this boy from DRC Glody Lilepo, he’s been working very hard. I think what has changed at Kaizer Chiefs is mentality. You don’t have to play good football but get results, this is a big team by the way. The worst result should at least be a draw.”

While Chiefs have been criticised for their inconsistencies this season, Vukubi has seen enough to believe that they are on the upward trajectory.

“Let’s go back to our mentality and style of play, which is through the wings. We need midfielders with defence-splitting passes,” he added. “As ex-players, we can see it getting there, something is cooking. We just need to be patient, especially the supporters.”

Chiefs can make it three straight wins if they beat Orbit College at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday afternoon.
