Kaizer Chiefs reach deal with new coach

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly nearing an agreement to appoint Fernando Da Cruz as their new head coach, following the departure of interim coaches Cedrick Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

According to iDiski Times, the club is in “advanced talks” with the French tactician. The Soweto giants are keen to finalise the deal swiftly to allow the new coach to spearhead pre-season preparations, which are expected to include a tour in Germany.

Da Cruz was previously linked with a move to Chiefs as an assistant to Nasreddine Nabi. However, that deal fell through when Nabi opted to join the Moroccan national team setup instead of taking the helm at Naturena.

Who is Kaizer Chiefs’ new coach?

During his time in Morocco, Da Cruz served as the Technical Director at ASFAR, where he worked closely with Nabi. As of now, Kaizer Chiefs have not made any official announcements regarding player signings or departures, preferring to wait for the incoming coach to assess the current squad.

The 54-year-old Frenchman has previously worked at Belgian side Mouscron, first as an assistant and then as head coach, and also managed Lille B in France.

Da Cruz will be hoping to lean on his one-year stint in Morocco (2022-2023) as he begins his Chiefs adventure with the Glamour Boys hoping that he can lead them to a PSL title challenge as well as CAF Confederation Cup glory.

According to multiple reports, Da Cruz will sign a two-year contract with Chiefs and will come with four members of his backroom staff with at least two other South Africans joining him.
