Kaizer Chiefs suffer crushing loss as Orlando Pirates’ winning run is halted

League leaders Orlando Pirates saw their six-game winning run in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) come to an end on Sunday after being held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy.

The Buccaneers found themselves trailing at halftime and had to fight back to salvage a point. While the draw ends their winning streak, it extends their unbeaten run to seven matches. In contrast, the Rockets are now without a win in their last three games.

The result sees Pirates’ lead at the top of the table shrink to just five points over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs‘ struggles continued as their winless streak stretched to three matches following a heavy 4-1 loss to Orbit College.

The reigning champions remain fifth on the log but now sit a massive 16 points behind the leaders, with their title defence looking increasingly unlikely.

For the debutants Orbit College, the victory extends their unbeaten run to five games and lifts them to 11th place on the table.

Sundowns had solidified their position in second place with a comfortable 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Saturday.

In-form striker Siyabonga Mabena gave the Brazilians a first-half lead, and Gomolemo Kekana sealed the victory early in the second half to secure all three points for the Tshwane giants.

Stellenbosch FC lost ground on the frontrunners, suffering their first defeat of the year in a 2-1 loss to an in-form Golden Arrows. Goals from Siphamandla Shangase and Khulekani Shezi gave Arrows their third consecutive win.

Biggest win of the weekend

Elsewhere, Siwelele FC were held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu, while Durban City and Polokwane City played out a goalless draw, with both teams remaining in mid-table.

The weekend’s most emphatic result came from Marumo Gallants, who thrashed bottom-of-the-table Chippa United 5-2. A remarkable four-goal haul from Ndzalama, along with a strike from Mathew, propelled Gallants into the top eight. The loss was the Chilli Boys’ seventh straight defeat, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the log.

Finally, Richards Bay FC snapped a six-game losing streak with a crucial 1-0 victory over Magesi FC. Asimbonge Mdunge’s late winner lifted the Natal Rich Boys to ninth place and pushed Magesi into the bottom three
