Kaizer Chiefs transfer boost as international target yet to accept new ‘very competitive’ deal

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to bolster their squad once again in the forthcoming Premier Soccer League off-season transfer window.

Among the players who have been on the Glamour Boys’ radar is Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafana international Thabo Moloisane. Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have also been linked with a move for the 27-year-old versatile defender.

The centre-back has been a key player for Stellies since his exit from a now-defunct Maritzburg United in 2013. While with the Cape Winelands outfit, Moloisane has four goals and three assists in the 107 appearances.

His current deal with the club ends at the end of the current campaign, and Stellies are pushing for a new contract, but the player hasn’t agreed according to the club’s CEO Rob Benadie.

“I’m going to be totally honest and transparent with you. Thabo Moloisane, we would like to keep him. We’ve offered him a contract and he hasn’t signed it. So, he is a free agent. You know, as we speak, he can sign a pre-contract,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Whether he’s done that or not, according to him and his agent and the information that’s been provided to me, he hasn’t signed with anybody yet.

“And, you know, we’re a club with limited resources. We don’t have an unlimited budget. So, if I’m going to pay you R10 grand, I’m going to have to take R2 off another player’s budget and so on.

“So, we’ve offered him a very competitive, what we think is a very competitive contract. And it’s now up to the player to decide if he wants to stay with us or go somewhere else. And we will prepare for both scenarios,” Benadie concluded.

It is interesting to see whether Chiefs will initiate talks with Moloisane and get him before other teams beat them to his services.
