Kaizer Chiefs are working hard to ensure they have a competitive squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Soweto giants have confirmed the exit of Aden McCarthy (Sabah, Azerbaijan), George Matlou, Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris. Reports have it that the club is also working on releasing Thabo Cele, Fiacre Ntwari, and Gaston Sirino – whose contract has expired.

Furthermore, it is not yet clear whether Glody Lilepo will be with the Glamour Boys beyond this season. The Democratic Republic of Congo international has been heavily linked with a move to North Africa, and rumours have it that Chiefs are willing to let him go.

Nevertheless, the decision has been reached regarding Pule Mmodi who is out of contract.

Pule Mmodi: What have Kaizer Chiefs decided?

“Kaizer Chiefs recently exercised the one-year option in Pule Mmodi’s contract, ensuring the winger remains with the club for the 2026/27 campaign,” FARPost reported.

“The decision also explains why Mmodi travelled with the squad to Spain for their pre-season training camp, where new head coach Fernando Da Cruz is assessing his options ahead of the new campaign.

“The club is expected to continue reshaping its options on the flanks. Asanele Velebayi is poised to play a far more prominent role in his second season at the club, having shown glimpses of his potential in his debut campaign. The former Cape Town Spurs winger is expected to feature more regularly on the left wing under Da Cruz.

“At the same time, Chiefs have not given up on their pursuit of Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili. Amakhosi remain keen on the highly rated attacker, despite Stellies having previously rejected their approaches and continuing to stand firm on their valuation,” they concluded.
