Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Gaston Sirino’s decision not surprising?

Published on by

Midfielder Gaston Sirino is expected to leave Kaizer Chiefs in the next couple of weeks.

The 35-year-old joined the Glamour Boys as a free agent two seasons ago, after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. In his two years at the Naturena Village, the creative attacker played 52 games, scored five goals, and provided eight assists, which, by his standards, wasn’t satisfying.

Amakhosi are reportedly ready to let the attacker leave as they prepare for a new season where they will be competing in the Premier Soccer League, Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and the Carling Knockout.

Sirino is among the top earners at the club and according to former Amakhosi midfielder Lucky Baloyi, letting Sirino leave will be good business for the Soweto giants.

Everyone knows what Sirino did for Sundowns. So obviously the expectation was for him to deliver the same for Chiefs,” Baloyi told Soccer Laduma..

“I’ve heard that he’s on his way out and if you look at a couple of things, it makes sense. Firstly, Sirino is now 35 and secondly, you can’t have a senior player who’s always on the bench.

“Based on my experiences at Chiefs, the club always looks at such things and rightly so,” continues Baloyi, who was nicknamed Sheriff in his heyday.

“You must also consider that such players don’t come cheap. So, I think it’s a good decision to let him go. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but we need to be realistic,” he concluded.
