Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Mokwana coming in for Lilepo?

Kaizer Chiefs were heavily linked with a move for South Africa international Elias Mokwana two seasons ago, before Tunisian heavyweights Esperance snapped him up from Premier Soccer League outfit Sekhukhune United.

In his debut campaign in North Africa, the versatile attacker made 38 appearances across all competitions, including the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and found the back of the net seven times, providing four assists in the process.

Last season, the 26-year-old Bafana Bafana winger was sent on loan to the Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hazem. He was one of the key players at the club but ended up contributing directly to four goals – found the back of the net once and assisted three times.

In the ongoing transfer window, the Glamour Boys have already lost a creative head in Gaston Sirino, and chances are high that Glody Lilepo will be on his way out. Despite rumours linking Mokwana to the Naturena Village, recent reports have stated otherwise.

What next for Mokwana?

“Algerian giants MC Alger and JS Kabylie have tabled official offers to Taraji, while clubs from UAE, Egypt and a Botola Pro rival have also sounded out the Tunisian club over their expected terms,” iDiski Times reported.

“It appears Mokwana’s move could be finalised in the next couple of weeks as he looks to get back into top form ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the South Africa national team,” they added.

Amakhosi have so far added former Stellenbosch defender Thabo Moloisane to their ranks, as well as goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner who did quite well for Sekhukhune United before leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

The Fernando Da Cruz-led team have lost Aden McCarthy (Sabah, Azerbaijan), George Matlou, Happy Mashiane, and Tashreeq Morris (Durban City).
