Kaizer Chiefs Transfers: Amakhosi reignite interest in Ugandan striker

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly reignited interest in a Ugandan striker that they have previously been linked with.

Chiefs have a host of strikers on their books already with Khanyisa Mayo, Flavio da Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro and Luke Baartman joining Tashreeq Morris, Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez in the off-season.

However, apart from Silva, who has four goals, the others have struggled to score while some are not getting game time, such as Morris, who is yet to play this season, and Baartman who made his debut on Sunday as a late substitute.

Steven Mukwala now plays for Simba SC.

That has led to questions about Chiefs’ recruitment when it comes to strikers as the club seems not to get it right and now, the Glamour Boys are being linked to another forward.

As per The Citizen, Chiefs have rekindled their interest in Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala who plays for Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

Makwala is a player Chiefs were linked with before the start of this season but he stayed at Simba, a club he joined last season.

The 26-year-old has plenty of experience in Africa as he had played for Ugandan sides KCCA FC, Maroons FC and champions Vipers SC before moving to Ghana to play for Asante Kotoko.

What can Chiefs expect from the Ugandan?

Makwala’s recent numbers, however, do not inspire confidence as he has just one assist in eight matches for Simba this season while he managed one goal for the club in 11 games last season.

He, however, had an impressive spell at Asante Kotoko, where he scored 25 goals in 63 matches, a record Chiefs would hope he returns to if they were to sign him.

Chiefs bosses and fans will have a chance to watch Makwala at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as he was named in the 30-man provisional squad that travelled to Morocco on Sunday to begin preparations for the tournament.
