‘They stalled the deal’ – Chiefs blamed for Morris’ failed transfer to PSL club

Kaizer Chiefs have been blamed for scuttling the potential transfer of striker Tashreeq Morris to a newly-promoted PSL club.

Morris has fallen down the pecking order at Chiefs as he is yet to make an appearance for Amakhosi this season despite just joining the club in January this year.

The striker has seen a host of new forwards arrive in this transfer window, moving him further down on the list of priorities for coach Nasreddine Nabi, and his situation is not helped by the fact that he is yet to score a goal since signing for Chiefs.

That has left him as one of the players who are unwanted at the club and the chance to leave arrived when his former coach Gavin Hunt wanted to sign him for Durban City but the move fell through and the veteran coach has blamed Chiefs for the failed move.

“Yes, there was an interest, it’s just that they [Chiefs] stalled the deal,” Hunt told the media on Tuesday, as quoted by iDiski Times, after seeing his side beat Siwelele FC 2-0 to move to fourth on the PSL table.

“I took Letsie because he was available,” he added, revealing why he signed Letsie Koapeng from Orbit College instead of Morris.

What next for the unwanted striker?

“We had to make a decision, that is my call. I can take Morris tomorrow, but obviously now [I can’t] because the budget is gone.”

Hunt and Morris worked together at the now defunct SuperSport United, where he gave the striker a chance after months out without a club, but after just two months, Chiefs came and snapped him up.

The striker will now have to explore his options with a few days left before the PSL transfer window shuts on Monday September 22.
