Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has opened up about the season the club has had, explaining why he believes they are set for good tidings in future.
Chiefs will finish third in the 2025-26 PSL campaign, a great improvement, having not made the top eight in the previous two seasons, while this is their best run since finishing second in 2019-20.
With 54 points, Chiefs are also on course to equaling the tally of 57 accumulated six years ago, and for a team that could only manage 32 for a ninth-place finish in 2024-25, this is a good run.
However, Kaze feels they missed an opportunity to fight for the title as the race was wide open this term, unlike before when Mamelodi Sundowns were utterly dominant.
Kaze on biggest disappointment this season

“I can say that this season, the league had no dominating team. Everyone was competing, and we were very close until probably late January,” Kaze said as quoted by FARPost.
“But it’s a lesson that we learnt from what we could have done differently, maybe to stay in contact with the log leaders. But if you say the difference between the points now and the previous season, it’s true that there is a big difference. This team deserves better things.”
Kaze, who has been in charge on an interim basis with co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef, since taking over from their former boss Nasreddine Nabi last September, feels they have laid the foundations for a successful Chiefs team going forward.
What gives the Kaizer Chiefs coach hope?

“I’ll summarise that it was a good season. It could have been better, that’s for sure, and we know that we have laid the foundation for better things in future,” he added.
“We wanted to be higher up there and to compete for the [PSL] title until the end. But there are lessons that are being learned and put into consideration going forward.”
Chiefs will play continental football next season after guaranteeing a CAF Confederation spot and Kaze, alongside Ben Youssef, will hope to be in charge to continue the project even though their contract ends next month and there have been many calls for them to be replaced.
