Former Kaizer Chiefs icons Doctor Khumalo and Mark Williams were officially inducted into the South African Hall of Fame on Friday evening, joining a distinguished group of seven football legends.

The duo were honoured alongside their 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning teammates Mark Fish and the late Phil Masinga, as well as the late coach Clive Barker. Completing the list of inductees were former national team captains Aaron Mokoena of Bafana Bafana and Janine Van Wyk of Banyana Banyana.

Khumalo, who captained Amakhosi and made over 400 appearances for the club, expressed heartfelt gratitude during his acceptance speech:

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Khosi family for their support and encouragement. I could not have done it without them supporting me every step of the way. Above all, I would like to thank the Chairman for his support and dedication in guiding me through this challenging journey.”

Williams, warmly congratulated by former Chiefs teammates, reflected on the importance of being recognised during his lifetime:

“For me, after everything I went through in my football career, it was a wonderful occasion to be honoured while I am still alive. I have seen many players honoured after they have passed, and I think it is important to celebrate legends while they are still here.

This was one of the biggest teams I played for, and I am celebrating this with all my former Chiefs teammates. On this occasion, I also remember the late Isaac Kungoane, one of my teammates who schooled me in the culture of Chiefs. I thank all the guys for acknowledging my achievement and their messages.”

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung praised the recognition of the two former stars:

“Doctor and Mark made an impact for the Club and Bafana Bafana. They brought joy and inspired many young people. To be recognised in this way is a deserved honour, and to have our former players acknowledged is also a mark of pride for the club.”

With Khumalo and Williams now enshrined, the number of Kaizer Chiefs-linked figures in the Hall of Fame rises to seven. Club Chairman Dr. Kaizer Motaung was inducted in 2023, while Lucas Radebe, Teenage Dladla, Neil Tovey, and the late Ace Ntsoelengoe, Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer followed in 2024.
