Lucas Moripe Stadium is the stage tonight as Mamelodi Sundowns host RB Leipzig in the Saxon club’s first-ever visit to South Africa — a historic friendly that doubles as a celebration of the Brazilians’ CAF Champions League triumph just five days ago.

The timing adds a layer of remarkable significance to the occasion. Sundowns defeated AS FAR Rabat 2–1 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League final just five days ago, claiming their second continental crown and completing one of the most demanding seasons in the club’s history. Tonight is both a celebration and a final showcase before the off-season begins.

For RB Leipzig, the visit is no accident. The club’s tour, named RE KAOFELA — meaning “All Together” in Sesotho — was directly inspired by Sundowns’ participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which introduced African club football to a vast new global audience. Leipzig general manager Johann Plenge has described Sundowns as a perfect match for the club, commercially and culturally, and the partnership between two Puma and Red Bull-affiliated organisations makes this feel like the beginning of something bigger.

Miguel Cardoso will treat tonight primarily as an opportunity to give fringe players and academy talent competitive minutes against genuine European opposition. Ronwen Williams, Teboho Mokoena and Jayden Adams have all joined the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of the World Cup, stripping the available squad of its captain and two key midfielders. Marcelo Allende, Themba Zwane and Monnapule Saleng will provide the senior core.

Ole Werner brings a squad of 16 first-team players and ten academy prospects, with several regulars away on World Cup duty. Peter Gulácsi starts in goal, Conrad Harder leads the attack, and Assan Ouedraogo provides the creative link in a 4-2-3-1 built on high-pressing intensity and direct transitions.

This is a historic first meeting between the two clubs. Stay with Afrik-Foot South Africa for live updates, confirmed line-ups and all the action from Atteridgeville.
