Kaizer Chiefs appear to have identified a new leader in Angolan defender Inacio Miguel, who joined the club at the start of the current season.
The 28-year-old was brought in to bolster Amakhosi’s defense, which has been shaky for quite some time.
He has quickly become one of the most reliable players for coach Nasreddine Nabi, who entrusted him with the captain's armband during their recent match against Marumo Gallants in the CUFA Cup.
The original captain Yusuf Maart was on the bench while the vice captain Given Msimango didn’t wear the armband despite being in the starting line-up.
Maart continues to hold the title of club captain, but Miguel is reportedly being prepared for this leadership position, as he is considered the most formidable leader within the team

MIGUEL WORE THE ARMBAND DESPITE VICE CAPTAIN MSIMANGO BEING ON THE FIELD
“For now, the status quo remains the same. Yusuf Maart is the captain and Given Msimango is the vice captain,” said Soccer Laduma’s source.
“But on the field of play, Miguel is the leader. In the dressing room Miguel is the leader so on Sunday they decided to make him captain ahead of Msimango because they needed a true leader on the field and that's what Miguel provides and he guides the young players very well and can control the game from the back. But Maart and Msimango are still coming in as captains.”
Insiders suggest that had Miguel arrived earlier before the Chiefs' camp in Turkey, the likelihood of his appointment would have been significantly greater.
“I think if he had arrived much earlier before the trip to Turkey then things could be different now. I think he could have been the captain,” the source added.
“But since Maart is the captain now, then they are grooming Miguel for the future. He is experienced and they need his leadership skills both on the field and in the dressing room.”
