Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has set an ambitious target of beating the club’s scoring record before December.
Mabasa is six goals shy of the club record of 52 managed by legendary Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi and is sure of smashing that mark before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off in Morocco in December.
The 28-year-old has been one of the highest scoring strikers in the PSL in recent years and is confident that he can even edge closer in the first month of the season.
Pirates striker looking to break record soon

“I’m looking to have a very big season, and I think I’m 10 or 11 goals away, I want to achieve that record before AFCON starts,” Mabasa told iDiski Times.
“It is [possible], in August we already have five games, six with MTN8, so I don’t see why [I can’t break the record].”
Mabasa feels the extra pressure of targeting the record is just what he needs at this point in his career and will be looking to do double digit goals again after managing 34 in the last two campaigns.
What is giving Mabasa confidence?

“I don’t see pressure anymore, it’s about speaking things into existence, speaking things into life. It’s how my mother has raised me, it’s about speaking it to life, and it will happen,” he added.
Mabasa has scored 46 goals in 167 games for Pirates since joining the club in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic.
Overall, he has 66 goals in 226 games in the PSL, having played for Celtic, Pirates, Sekhukhune United and Moroka Swallows.
