Mamelodi Sundowns have made a decision on the future of their left-back Aubrey Modiba ahead of the start of the next season.
The Bafana Bafana defender’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, while the club has had an option to extend.
Modiba has been one of the key players for the Tshwane-based club since joining from SuperSport United at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.
He penned a five-year deal with Masandawana and went on to amass 167 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and providing 17 assists in the process.
His influence extends beyond his club, as he has been a vital component of the Bafana Bafana squad that impressively clinched the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire early last year, highlighting his impact on the international stage.
Early last year, rumours of international interest in Modiba surfaced following his strong showing at the Africa Cup of Nations, but these never translated into official bids. He consequently continued his integral role in Sundowns' championship triumph.

According to SABC Sport, Tshwane giants have wasted no time, utilising their option to secure Modiba's services until June 2026, with a further option for an additional season, ensuring his future remains with the club.
SUNDOWNS WANT NEGOTIATE ANOTHER LONG-TERM DEAL WITH MODIBA
Reports from the public broadcaster further indicated that it’s believed that the two sides will soon engage in discussions to finalise a long-term deal for the 29-year-old, ensuring his stay with the Tshwane giants.
Modiba will be hoping to play a pivotal role in helping Sundowns win the CAF Champions League this upcoming Sunday when the two sides face off in the return tie. The aggregate score is 1-1.
