Major update on Kaizer Chiefs-Lwandile Mabuya links

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs have officially concluded their interest in Richards Bay FC defender Lwandile Mabuya after successfully securing the services of former Orlando Pirates right-back Thabiso Monyane.

The Soweto giants moved with impressive speed to initiate talks with Monyane following his recent, unexpected departure from Pirates last week.

According to FARPost, the 25-year-old has already signed with the “Phefeni Glamour Boys,” with only a successful medical test remaining to finalize the move.

Monyane’s arrival is set to significantly intensify competition for the right-back position at Naturena. He'll be vying for a starting berth against current occupants Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler, assuming they remain with the club.

With Monyane now secured, Chiefs have clearly diverted their attention away from Mabuya, indicating they feel well-covered in that defensive role.

Mabuya had been on Amakhosi’s radar for some time, having consistently impressed with his solid performances for the Natal Rich Boyz over the past two campaigns, where he's made 56 appearances across all competitions and contributed two goals since joining Richards Bay in 2020.

MAKO COMPLETES MOVE TO CHIEFS

In related transfer news, Chiefs have also completed the signing of Paseka Mako, another recent departure from Orlando Pirates.

Similar to Monyane, the 31-year-old left-back still needs to undergo and pass his medical tests for his deal to be fully finalized. Mako parted ways with the “Sea Robbers” after a seven-year stint, having initially joined them in July 2018 from Chippa United.

His signing addresses a critical area of concern for Chiefs, as the left-back position was notably unstable throughout the recently concluded season, with coach Nasreddine Nabi frequently rotating between Bradley Cross, Dove Edmilson, and even Ditlhokwe prior to his mid-season departure.

Mako's experience is expected to bring much-needed stability to this problematic role.
