Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Siwelele 7-4 in an entertaining Premier Soccer League outing staged at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday evening.
Both Brayan Leon and Ghampani Lungu scored a hattrick for their respective teams in the highest ever-scoring fixture in the history of the PSL.
Despite their good start, the Brazilians just couldn’t get the margin they wanted to reduce the gap between them and Orlando Pirates in terms of the goal difference.
The six-goal thriller
Teboho Mokoena needed just seven goals to find the back of the net in favour of the defending champions. His rockety from the edge of the box after defensive lapses was too much for the goalkeeper.
Two minutes later, the adavantage was doubled when Nuno Santos found Tashreeq Matthews in a prime position and the latter made no mistake from a close range.
It got worse for Siwelele in the 24th minute as Ricardo Goss thought he had cleared the on-target attempt, but it wasn’t the case. In his bid to make a goalline clearance, Nyiko Mobbie swept the ball home to make it 3-0 for the hosts.
The Brazilians lost their concentration in the 30th minute giving a chance to Siphesihle Lungu to tee up Ghampani Lungu who had no problems beating Ronwen Williams.

Matthews got his second of the game in the 37th minute as Colombian attacker Brayan Leon found him in space, before the South American made it 5-1 with four minutes remaining before the break.
The party extended after the break
Lungu completed his brace just five minutes after, once again, converting Jeza’s precise pass to give the visitors hope of unlikely come-back. Nevertheless, Leon was there to punish Siwelele once again just a minute later following a swift counter attack.

The Colombian scored his third of the match on the hour-mark to make it 7-2 for Masandawana.
Interestingly, Siwelele once again found a way to reduce the deficit in the 65th minute as Williams was caught on his near-post by Relebogile Mokhuoane, who had done well to outmuscle the defenders.
Orlando Pirates need to do the job in the remaining three fixtures, where many goals will guarantee them the trophy.
