A Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has been sent out on a season-long loan at the Argentinian outfit, Club Atlético Talleres.
The Brazilians have already waved goodbyes to Bongani Zungu, Gaston Sirino, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Promise Mkhuma and Malebogo Modise.
Matias Esquivel has also left the club to reunite with Talleres despite having spent just six months with the Tshwane giants. The left-footed midfielder played for Talleres in 2022 before he joined Lanus.
His departure from Sundowns is said to have been prompted by limited space for foreign players. Masandawana now has six players without South African citizenship: Arthur de Oliveira Sales, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Marcelo Allende, Erwin Saavedra, Abubeker Nasir, and Abdelmounaim Boutouil.
With the PSL allowing only five foreign players per club, it remains to be seen who else will leave the club.
SUNDOWNS MIDFIELDER UNVEILED BY ARGENTINE CLUB
“Club Atlético Talleres reports that Matías Eduardo Esquivel is a new player for the institution and is already training with the senior team,” the club announced on its social media platforms.
“The Scouting Department of Club Talleres has closely followed the evolution of Matías, highlighting his versatility to occupy more than one position within the midfield.
“Furthermore, due to his technical quality and agility, Esquivel is a player who can provide solutions to the team, generating danger in the last third of the playing field; Esquivel also has a good repertoire of dribbles, assists and execution of mid-distance shots.
“Finally, the experience gained during his last two seasons has given the player the ability to mature in decision-making.
“Matías Esquivel, an acquaintance of the Club who returns in a season of triple competition, is a new reinforcement and joins the institution for a period of one year.”
