Latest on Mamelodi Sundowns, in the last 24 hours, including defender’s exit from Masandawana, Khuliso Mudau at par with Hakimi and more.
Defender leaves Sundowns
Terrence Mashego is on the verge of joining Stellenbosch FC after Mamelodi Sundowns agreed to loan the experienced left-back to the Cape Winelands outfit.
Mashego has already travelled to Stellenbosch to link up with head coach Gavin Hunt’s squad for pre-season preparations, bringing an end to speculation about where he would spend the 2026/27 campaign.
The move also reunites Mashego with Hunt, who coached him at the start of last season at Durban City FC before the veteran mentor’s departure. The pair are understood to have built a strong working relationship, with Hunt identifying the experienced left-back as a key figure in his plans before his exit from the club.

FARPost understands that Durban City FC explored every avenue to retain the Mamelodi-born defender. The reigning Nedbank Cup holders initially sought a permanent transfer, then proposed another season-long loan, offering to cover Mashego’s full salary to convince Sundowns. However, Sundowns have opted to send the defender to Stellenbosch instead.
The arrangement last season was different as Masandawana continued to pay the former Cape Town City FC fullback’s salary.
Mudau on same level with Hakimi!
Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela has claimed that Bafana Bafana right-back Khuliso Mudau is just on the same level as Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
Mudau, 31, has been hailed as one of the best in his position in South Africa across generations. His displays in the CAF Champions League especially last season where he helped the Brazilians clinch their second continental title, have also been used as proof of his qualities.

“I’ve told him he is at the level of Achraf Hakimi,” Komphela told iDiski Times.
“He is a player of unbelievable defensive capacities. Sailor is amazing in one-on-ones; he’s a monster in those situations and no doubt one of the best on the continent.
“For me, he easily ranks in the top five [right-backs] in the world. He has great pride in duels. I am yet to see him struggle with a winger.

“He’s got such physical capacity you will never outpace him, and such is his confidence in his pace that he sometimes deliberately gives a winger a yard or two so he can open a stride to recover.”
