Mamelodi Sundowns News Today: How Cardoso can keep his job, worst Williams & more

Latest news about Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 24 hours, including how Miguel Cardoso can keep his job at the club, Ronwen Williams’ struggles, and more.

Cardoso told how to keep his job at Sundowns

Benedict Vilakazi has made bold statement that Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso must win the CAF Champions League final if he wants to keep his job.

“Right now, I’m not going to lie to you he cannot lose two trophies. He needs to get one. Again, remember what the management of Mamelodi Sundowns and the Directors and the Chairman wants is the Champions League. So, he’s got that opportunity to say I can get that trophy for you guys,” he told iDiski TV.

“Unfortunately, he’s going with a team, you know how back then they used to put wheel caps on car wheels, it looks beautiful, but he’s got a team without wheel caps, just old rims. That’s the sad part but I just wish them all the best.

“But it’s a must win trophy for him. If he doesn’t win the Champions League, I don’t think it’s going to be easier for him to be at Sundowns next season. Sundowns at the back they were vulnerable.

“We spoke about it in terms of the defence shaking. I think the coach took out [Grant] Kekana to save him for the Champions League. Other than that, that defence was not balanced and as they go to the Champions League final with this defence, I’m worried,” Vilakazi concluded.

Worst Williams?

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger makes his case on Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams.

“Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams I think he is enduring one of his worst, worst performances now.

“I’d have doubts of taking Ronwen [to the World Cup] if I was the coach, let me out it that way, it would be difficult to take him.

“But because he is going to the CAF Champions League final and he’s been number one through the build-up, and qualifying for the AFCON and the World Cup, he’ll definitely go…”

How losing CAF CL hurt

Thapelo Morena has opened up on the emotional scars left behind by last season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final defeat.

“To be honest, after we lost the final last year, when I got home it was a very tough situation for me and the family as well but knowing that I have them as a support structure and that I will be spending time with them really makes a difference. They try by all means to give me support,” Morena told the CAF’s media team.

“I think we have the feeling of being in a final now. It’s not like before when the last time we were there was in 2016. So now it is recent and we obviously know the pain of not lifting the trophy when we are so close. So, this is our final push to make sure that we deliver and give our all,” he concluded.
