Adams backing Cardoso after recent struggles

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has echoed sentiments by head coach Miguel Cardoso that a key factor has been the main culprit behind a recent poor defensive record.

“I got a rest [against TS Galaxy] because of the red card. I think the other players are struggling. You can see in the games, like close to the 90th minute, you can see the guys are struggling,” Adams said as quoted by KickOff.

“But we are here to push. That’s what Sundowns does; plays a lot of games maybe in one week. We are pushing.

“We just need to focus on ourselves and leave the rest behind us. For me, coming back into the team after the loss, I need to boost the guys and keep on pushing.”

‘That is why I’m at Sundowns!’

Ahead of their home leg of the CAF Champions League final, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos has revealed one of the ‘main reasons’ for joining the club, where he has fitted in like a glove.

“It feels very good [to be in the final]. That was one of the main reasons for me to come to Mamelodi Sundowns, to win the Champions League. Being in the final is part of that process, so it’s very good,” he opened up to the media.

“It’s very competitive. We have played in four or five different countries, and every game is different.

“Every opponent has its own style of play, but at the same time, it makes us grow. It’s a competition that is very good for the players, and hopefully we can get it this year,” he concluded.

Modiba adamant ‘Downs have learnt their lesson’

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Aubrey Modiba has opened up on some lessons drawn some from their 2025 CAF Champions League final ahead of the 2026 first leg final decider.

“The lessons we have taken from last season I think I’ve touched briefly on that one even the coach,” the Bafana Bafana defender said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Obviously last season we conceded at home in the first leg. Like I said coach touched on that, we are aware of the away goal rule and obviously we’ll try by all means to keep seal at the back and hopefully score goals at home.

“But obviously we know these games are never easy especially because ASFAR if I’m not mistaken it’s their first time in a final. Obviously, they are going to try by all means to fight and win it as well as much as we want it.

“But the lessons are the ones that I’ve touched and hopefully we can be able to rectify that going into another game in Morocco.”
