Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has revealed how well the club has preserved the Loftus Versfeld pitch ahead of their CAF Champions League final first leg against AS FAR on Sunday.

Cardoso also spoke about his team’s struggles in different pitches that were not up to standard this season.

“We played with the grass longer than we’d like to, in order to keep the pitch as best as possible for tomorrow,” he said as per iDiski Times.

“Even the rugby match will be played at a 2.5 height for the grass, so it stays compact and it can be conserved as best as possible for the match the following day. And then it will be cut at a height that will allow us to play good football.”

AS FAR Rabat coach Alexander Santos has detailed how his team will approach Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League final which begins with the first leg at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

Santos acknowledges that Sundowns are a quality side and have more experience in the competition than his team but he feels AS FAR also have their threats.

“Sundowns are a strong team collectively, characterised by quick ball possession, high tactical organization, in addition to their great experience in African competitions, but we also have strengths and the character of a great team, and we will enter the match in order to achieve a positive result,” said Santos as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

Could Mamelodi Sundowns still win PSL title?

Heading into this weekend, it was already a foregone conclusion that Orlando Pirates will dislodge Mamelodi Sundowns as PSL champions but after what was witnessed on Saturday, the Brazilians could still claim it.

Following Pirates’ goalless draw with Durban City, Sundowns hold a two-point advantage over the Buccaneers who head into the final match against Orbit College and if they fail to win, Miguel Cardoso’s team will be crowned.

Pirates therefore head into the match under massive pressure as only a win will do it for them against Orbit who also require a win to avoid relegation or a draw to clinch a promotion playoff place.
