Latest on Mamelodi Sundowns news in the last 24 hours, including two sent on loan, why Pyramids want Rulani Mokwena, Themba Zwane lauded and more.
Sundowns send two on loan
Mamelodi Sundowns are set to send striker Jody Ah Shene and midfielder Aphelele Teto back on loan to University of Pretoria for the 2026/27 season.
“Ah Shene and Teto will spend the upcoming season on loan with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side,” iDiski Times reported.
“The duo was already at AmaTuks last season under the leadership of Kwanele Kopo, and will now form part of the side under new head coach Michael Loftman.
“Ah Shene joined Sundowns from Cape Town City in January 2026 but was sent on loam immediately for more game-time, while Teto joined AmaTuks at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.

“The duo is expected to play a huge role in Loftman’s plans and fight for promotion to the Betway Premiership this season. The Tshwane-based side finished in 11th place last season with 35 points after 30 games, which resulted in Kopo’s departure.”
Why Pyramids want Mokwena
With Rulani Mokwena seemingly on the verge of joining Egyptian giants Pyramids FC, the reason behind the club’s pursuit of the South African tactician has reportedly been revealed.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has been without a club since parting ways with Libyan outfit Al Ittihad Tripoli earlier this year, but another North African challenge now appears imminent.

It is understood that almost all the terms of a proposed one-year deal have already been agreed, with only a few final details still needing to be ironed out before the move is officially completed.
According to one3, Pyramids view Mokwena as the ideal candidate because of his extensive experience on the African stage, with the club looking to strengthen its technical department as it looks to remain competitive for both domestic and continental honours next season.
The Egyptian giants are believed to see the 39-year-old as a coach capable of maintaining the club’s upward trajectory while building on their ambitions in the CAF Champions League and local competitions.
Biggest inspiration Zwane lauded
Milford FC latest signing Thabang Mabena has explained why Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane remains his biggest inspiration.
Mabena recently completed a move to the newly promoted Betway Premiership side Milford FC. Mabena joined the KwaZulu-Natal side after spending three seasons at Black Leopards.
Having graced the top flight for over 14 years, the 36-year-old Zwane is a shining example of longevity and professionalism. Known for his quiet and reserved demeanour, he has maintained an immaculate disciplinary record both on and off the pitch.

His highly decorated career includes winning two CAF Champions League titles with Sundowns and, most recently, representing Bafana Bafana on the global stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Themba Zwane, he is one player that I look up to, especially his lifestyle. He is someone that you don’t just find in unnecessary things you see. He is someone who stays away from girls and drugs, all those things,” he told the media.
“So he is someone that I look up to, and I am happy that I will have a chance to play against him and learn what I can from him.
“Obviously, playing in the PSL is something that every player wants, especially when growing up. But I would love to see myself playing overseas and achieving more.
“Where I am, I am extremely happy. The way they [Milford] have welcomed me at the club, the players, and the chairman [Dr Xanti Pupuma]. Everyone here has welcomed me with both hands. So I feel there will be a trophy that we will bring home this season, and we will compete in the league. So it’s time that we get to the ground and showcase our talent,” he concluded.
