Statistics meant to be changed! Downs warned
Esperance de Tunis head coach Patrice Beaumelle has downplayed Mamelodi Sundowns’ impressive home record in the CAF Champions League, saying records are just statistics.
“It’s always statistics and statistics are meant to be changed. Of course, it’s one indicator that they are very efficient. They are good actually in this competition,” said Beumelle
“But I remember one month ago we went to Cairo and Esperance never beat Al Ahli in Cairo in the history and we made it and we scored three goals. So everything is possible. It’s football. Today we speak we are here to respond to your question, but tomorrow the best answer is on the field and to try to be efficient.

“We played a very good game. I think we troubled Sundowns last week, but we were not efficient. So we just have to believe in ourelves like we believed in Cairo and in the past. So everything is possible. We’ll see…”

There’s a lot of respect in the Esperance de Tunis camp for South African footballing giants Mamelodi Sundowns, with the Taraji defender, Mohamed Dräger, describing the Brazilians as one of the monsters of African football.
“I respect them in every position, on every corner. It’s a big team, especially at home, like a big force. Very dynamic team, very tactically and technically prepared team by the coach and the whole staff. So yeah, I mean, it’s a semifinal of the Champions League.
“Everyone who’s facing each other now is facing basically one of the monsters in Africa. So we face a monster of Africa, not the monster.”
