Latest Mamelodi Sundowns news, in the last 24 hours, including why Khulumani Ndamane has not featured for Masandawana, Thapelo Maseko’s profits, why the Brazilians can’t be complacent, and more.
Where is Ndamane?
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has clarified the surprise absence of Khulumani Ndamane from the matchday squad during the early stages of the 2026/27 season.
Ndamane missed all the opening three matches for Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League and MTN8, with Kegan Johannes and Grant Kekana playing as the two centre-backs.
“If you think about our team, you may imagine how we are still settling down players, how difficult it has been to get the players from the World Cup late. We received the players late after a not-so-big rest. Among them [the Bafana Bafana players], some were not in the best condition,” Cardoso explained.
“For example, [Khulumani] Ndamane went to the World Cup and did not play a single minute. So his vacation, together with the entire World Cup period, was then extended by two or three weeks without him doing anything.

“So after he started training again, he got injured. Imagine, people say, put Ndamane to play. People have no idea about what they’re saying. Unfortunately, at Sundowns, I think the fans who talk too much are the ones who don’t really follow the team.
“They speak too much and understand too little. I think it is important to settle down the critics of the players and to deal with these things in a proper way. This team is under a rebuild process.”
Maseko’s transfer fee
The transfer fee of Thapelo Maseko from Mamelodi Sundowns to FC Copenhagen has been revealed according to reports from abroad.
FC Copenhagen have paid approximately €800,000 (approximately R15 million) to Sundowns for the transfer of Thapelo Maseko, according to Danish publication Bold.
The 22-year-old winger was presented by the Danish capital club on Tuesday morning, with Bold revealing the financial details of the deal that brings the South African international to Europe.
The publication describes the fee as “a modest transfer fee for the South African, who FCK has had on its radar recently,” suggesting Copenhagen have secured a bargain for a player who impressed for the African champions.

Thapelo Maseko has signed a contract with FC Copenhagen until the summer of 2030, committing his long-term future to the Danish outfit as they prepare for both domestic and European competition.
No complacency for Downs
Grant Kekana has stressed the importance of Mamelodi Sundowns not being complacent this season as they look to reclaim the Betway Premiership they lost to Orlando Pirates last term.
