Latest on Mamelodi Sundowns and more.
Why Sundowns are keen on keeping Sibiya
Thato Sibiya could be set for a significantly expanded role at Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2026/27 season, the Siya crew has been informed.
The 19-year-old left-back has caught the eye despite limited opportunities, with the Tshwane giants turning down approaches for his services from within the Betway Premiership.
Sibiya made just four appearances in all competitions for Sundowns this season, including two in the CAF Champions League campaign where the Brazilians went all the way to lift the coveted continental title.
His limited game time is understandable given that Aubrey Modiba and Divine Lunga remain ahead in the pecking order at Chloorkop.

“Sibiya represents the future at left-back, and the club’s refusal to entertain loan or permanent transfer offers underscores their long-term planning,” Soccer Laduma reported.
“The evidence that Sundowns may need him sooner rather than later became apparent this season.”
Should Mashego leave Masandawana?
Mamelodi Sundowns’ decision to exercise their option on Terrence Mashego’s deal despite boasting a crowded left-back department, has sparked intrigue.
With four established options already competing for one position, Sundowns’ commitment to Mashego has raised eyebrows across South African football.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Durban City FC, where he made 28 appearances in all competitions and played a pivotal role in their Nedbank Cup triumph.
His performances in KwaZulu-Natal caught attention, with Durban City keen to secure his services permanently.

Further complicating matters, Gavin Hunt has entered the picture. The Stellenbosch FC coach, who initially signed Mashego for Durban City, now wants to reunite with the defender at the Cape Winelands outfit.
Yet, Sundowns have chosen to retain him despite the congestion in his position.
