Sundowns to lose Mokoena after World Cup?

Glyn Binkin, the agent of Teboho Mokoena, says the Bafana Bafana star has attracted interest from abroad, and they will be engaging Sundowns.

Since arriving at Chloorkop from SuperSport United in January 2022, Mokoena has established himself as a vital cog in the Masandawana midfield. The 29-year-old has also, over the years, turned himself into one of the key Bafana players.

Reports from Saudi Arabia suggest that Mokoena is a wanted man. Al Ettifaq, who are home to former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mohau Nkota, and Al Taawoun are said to have made Mokoena their transfer target.

The midfielder still has three years left on his Sundowns contract. It is to be seen if the Saudi clubs will be able to prize him away from Masandawana.

According to Transfermarkt, Mokoena’s market value is currently R52 million, and it could go up in the next few weeks depending on his overall World Cup performance. Binkin spoke to this publication about the interest in the player.

“As always, around transfer window time, there is interest in Mokoena, but he is fully focused on the World Cup for now,” Binkin told FARPost.

“After the tournament, we will engage with Sundowns and see what’s best for all parties.”

Ex-Sundowns coach targeting abroad

Manqoba Mngqithi is looking at options outside the country, as agent Mike Makaab confirmed that there are no local offers at the moment that suit the coach.

Mngqithi has left Golden Arrows with his contract officially expiring at the end of June, a surprise decision between the two parties considering he led the KZN outfit to a top eight finish.

“We are busy looking at opportunities for him outside of the country. There’s been quite a lot of interest. The important thing is that it’s got to be the right project for him. He’s not a young football coach. He’s an experienced football coach and requires serious projects to get stuck into, so we are busy looking outside the borders of the country,” Makaab told Soccer Laduma.

Manqoba Mngqithi is reportedly on his way out of Golden Arrows amid Kaizer Chiefs links.

“There has been (local interest), but nothing that really suits him at this point. Yes, we’ve had interest, but it’s important for the coach that the project is interesting. That’s why we are looking outside the borders. We want to try to extend our reach to see if we can work with a football club that is aligned with his values and vision, and visa versa.”
