Sundowns offer millions to sign Ecuador international

Ecuadorian midfielder Jordy Alcívar could be headed for another international move after a successful six months with Independiente del Valle . According to reports from an Ecuadorian media outlet, South African club Mamelodi Sundowns has submitted an offer of around USD 3 million to sign the player.

The potential transfer has generated surprise, as it would be an unusual destination for Ecuadorian footballers. Alcívar has already played abroad with León in Mexico and Charlotte FC in MLS, and currently has nearly 70 appearances for Independiente del Valle in the last two seasons, in addition to several call-ups to the Ecuadorian national team.

The midfielder, who came up through the Liga de Quito youth system, has won national titles and a Copa Sudamericana with Independiente del Valle. His potential departure is being considered amidst the LigaPro and Copa Libertadores competitions , leaving the club’s management undecided about accepting the offer.

The negotiation seeks to guarantee him undisputed ownership and favorable economic conditions, which could mark a turning point in his professional career.

Will Sundowns make MTN8 final?

Football analyst Junior Khanye has picked the two teams he thinks will be playing this season’s MTN8 final, with the advantage currently sitting with Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows.

The first legs of the semi-finals were contested last weekend, with Pirates recording a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United away from home, while Arrows triumphed with the same scoreline over Mamelodi Sundowns in the capital.

“Pirates and Sundowns are going straight to the final,” Khanye told KickOff.

“Arrows might be leading Sundowns 1-0, but we are talking about the African champions here. They competed in the Club World Cup. Sundowns players are on another level, a team that has won the league title eight times in a row. In South Africa, that has never been done before.

“The way Pirates and Sundowns are playing, it’s the way football is supposed to be played in South Africa. Not football that relies on second balls.

“Sekhukhune might be angry for losing to Pirates twice in a row, but there’s nothing they can do. The problem is they sign players for coach Cedric Kaze; they brought him there, but he never signed any player,” he adds, while giving Manqoba Mngqithi credit for laying a solid foundation for current head coach Pitso Dladla at Abafana Bes’thende. That team plays beautiful football.

“Arrows play like Sundowns; the difference is quality and experience. But Arrows will go there to defend their goal, and Sundowns will not stop coming at them. I see this ending 3-1,” he concluded.
