Cardoso’s team and Orlando Pirates are widely expected to challenge for the title again, just like last season, when the race was decided on the final day and this term, the two clubs are already tied on 13 points after five games.
The Sundowns coach, who has also not ruled out Kaizer Chiefs, feels the next four months will shape how the title contenders fare on for the rest of the season.
“We’re going to enter the period of the season until December that will be completely different to the one we had until now, both teams will have to play a lot during the weeks,” Cardoso told reporters as per KickOff.

“We would have to play CAF Champions League matches, qualifying matches, then the group stages, let’s hope both teams can arrive there and play for something more important.
“And then we will see what is going to happen. The capacity to play a lot (of games) and the stress and the pressure, knowing that in the Champions League matches you have to put in the best ones otherwise you don’t win.”
Mamelodi Sundowns ‘close in’ on ex-Pirates star?

Mamelodi Sundowns’ search for a new right-back has been widely documented since Khuliso Mudau suffered a long-term injury that will keep him out for six months last month.
Matters have been further complicated after Zuko Mdunyelwa was stretchered off during their match against Milford FC at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday, leaving Thapelo Morena as the only option in the position.
While Sundowns have been linked with Polokwane City’s Thabang Matuludi, Soccer Beat reports claim the Brazilians are closing in on Deano van Rooyen, who was released by Orlando Pirates last week.
Van Rooyen is a free agent and would not cost the Brazilians anything as compared to Matuludi, whose club is asking for a multi-million offer, to let him leave.
