Latest news on Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 24 hours, including Masandawana likened to German giants Bayern Munich, Miguel Cardoso’s take ahead of date with Kaizer Chiefs, and more.
Sundowns are South Africa’s Bayern Munich!
RB Leipzig’s Head of Sport Marcel Schafer has drawn a striking comparison between Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Mamelodi Sundowns, outlining why dethroning Germany’s most decorated club remains one of football’s most difficult tasks – while refusing to rule out the possibility entirely.
“I played for Wolfsburg in 2009 and it was totally unexpected that we won the league. Bayern struggled. In 2011/12, Dortmund did a great job, but Bayern struggled. 2007, Stuttgart won – Bayern struggled,” Schafer said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“The only team, we have to be honest, who had an outstanding season – without Bayern struggling – was Leverkusen, but this is once in 30 years.
“You’re competing with a club that has a huge distance over others and, through history, one of the best clubs in the world definitely the best club in Germany, sporting wise, and of course economic wise.

“Like Mamelodi Sundowns – they are able to spend and it’s easy for them to keep the best players. It’s not a must to sell any players – because they have so many other revenues. Bayern is a big brand and world class players,” Schafer concluded.
Cardoso adamant Downs vs Chiefs ‘will be played with respect’
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has shared his views ahead of their midweek clash against a well-rested Kaizer Chiefs side.
“Obviously, my people are working on that… I’m going to start to work on that,” said Cardoso.
“But it’s a match, it’s a match to be played with all respect by everybody. Obviously, it’s a match that is quite a big match in South Africa.

“So, we have to go for it and try to make it in the best way so that we can get the points because we need the points to proceed. That’s it.
“So, the objective is the same, the way we’re going to work through. There’s not a lot of time.
Downs vs Chiefs: Sols Out!
Tickets for the Betway Premiership encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday have been sold out.
Mathematically, they have won the league
With Mamelodi Sundowns in the driving seat of the Betway Premiership title race, club legend Roger Feutmba has added his take on who will be crowned champions come the end of what has been a thrilling season.
“Sundowns are one step from winning the league, and that’s because of the depth in their squad,” shares Feutmba, speaking to KickOff.
“I don’t think they have won the league already, but they are very, very close. With the consistency they have, I can say they will win the league. Therefore, I cannot say people shouldn’t celebrate yet because most of the time we are winning, so we are used to celebrating. The result against Polokwane City was a good step moving forward.

“But the league title race will be much clearer after the next two games. In football, you win by doing yourself a favour – and Sundowns are doing exactly that – and you do that by remaining consistent.
“Even though they [Chiefs] are not doing so well this season, they can be tough in these types of games. Mathematically, I can say Sundowns have won the league.”
