Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock elimination from the CAF Champions League at the preliminary round on Friday.
Sundowns, who are the defending champions, had been the overwhelming favourites to win not just the preliminary round tie but the title.
However, Angolan side Wiliete SC had other ideas. Having played out a goalless draw in Angola last weekend, it was hoped that Sundowns would easily complete the job in the second leg at home but it was not to be.

Sundowns stunned at home
Playing in front of their supporters at Loftus Versfeld, Sundowns started in fine fashion as Tashreeq Matthews scored after 11 minutes and it was hoped that Miguel Cardoso would romp to an easy win.
However, it would be their only goal as Angolan striker Mabululu drew Wiliete level in the 49th minute and the visitors held on to win the game on the away goals rule after a 1-1 aggregate score.
It means Sundowns will not be involved in the group stages for the first time since 2015, when they exited at the first round.

Shocking result in African football
It was a shock result not just for South African football but the whole of Africa as the Brazilians were considered title contenders this season.
With Sundowns exiting and Kaizer Chiefs also knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup, Orlando Pirates and potentially Durban City will be South Africa’s representatives in Africa.
