Mamelodi Sundowns sealed an eighth straight PSL title following a 3-0 victory over Chippa United at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium on Wednesday.
Having seen their title celebrations delayed by Orlando Pirates, who bid coach Jose Riveiro goodbye with a 3-0 win over Golden Arrows on Tuesday, Sundowns knew a win would seal the league title on Wednesday and delivered it.
The Brazilians went ahead after just 10 minutes when Iqraam Rayners showed his class, weaving his way past two of his markers before firing in the top corner his 14th league goal and the 21st of the season in all competitions.
How did Sundowns turn on the style?
Sundowns then threatened on a number of occasions in the first half with Tashreeq Matthews and Lucas Ribeiro coming close but they could not add onto their tally.
They maintained the onslaught after the break with Ribeiro coming very close to a second goal when he was played in by Matthews but missed the ball when he was just about to pull the trigger before Malebogo Modise made a goal line clearance.
Five minutes later, Sundowns were denied a clear goal when Rayners slammed the goal home but the referee flagged him offside. However, replays showed that the striker was clearly onside when he received the ball.
Sundowns shrugged off that setback and in the 68th minute they were celebrating the second goal when Arthur Sales scored in fortunate circumstances.
Fortunate goals for Arthur Sales
The Brazilian brought in a cross from the right wing but the ball found itself in the net for 2-0 in favour of Sundowns.

Sales would be fortunate for a second time when Chippa goalkeeper Darren Johnson, in for the dropped Stanley Nwabali, made a mess in an attempt to play out from the back before the forward robbed him and tapped into the net.
That is how it ended as Sundowns completed another successful league season, winning an eighth league title on the bounce, having taken their tally to an unassailable 70 points from 27 games.
