Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has been told to consider giving Iqraam Rayners more chances in the Premier Soccer League as opposed to Brayan Leon.

The former Stellenbosch forward has been starting matches from the bench, while the Colombian gets preferrence.

In the race for the Golden Boot, Golden Arrows’ man Sede Junior Dion has 12 goals, followed by Rayners, who has scored 10. Bradley Grobler from Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng have eight and seven goals respectively. Interestingly, Langelihle Phili has also found the back of the ent seven times.

Mamelodi Sundowns urged to give Rayners more time

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola explains why Rayners should be considered regularly.

“I still believe that if the Sundowns coach(Miguel Cardoso) can give Rayners more time inside the field, he’s going to score more goals for Sundowns and be the top scorer,” he opend up as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“Rayners is a goal poacher. He can position himself well and he’s got speed, and he’s a good finisher. Brayan León can score goals, but he’s short-tempered. So he’s getting unnecessary yellow cards.

“For me, Rayners is better than all those strikers who are competing for the top scorer award,” Sebola added.

Broos urged to consider Mamelodi Sundowns star

“I’m surprised and very disappointed with [Bafana Bafana’s] Hugo Broos, because he’s not selecting or playing Rayners,” Sebola added.

I understand Rayners had some medical problems, but he looks like he has recovered. We need a striker like him.

“If you look at Lyle Foster, he’s playing more on the right for Burnley and not as an outright striker. I don’t think it’s a good idea to ignore Rayners. We still need him more than anybody at Bafana Bafana,” he concluded..
