Tanzanian champions Young Africans Yanga SC, have appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician Manqoba Mngqithi as their coach.
The position fell vacant after the exit of Portuguese Pedro Goncalves who recently took over at the Botola Pro League outfit AS FAR Rabat. The Moroccan outfit had parted ways with Alexandre Santos after unsatisfying 2025/26 results.
Wananchi beat Steve Barker’s Simba SC to the Tanzania Premier League title before the experienced tactician opted to leave.
Manqoba the new man in charge of Yanga
The 55-year-old Mngqithi was a free agent after parting ways with the Premier Soccer League side Golden Arrows. Abafana Bes’thende finished sixth in the recent season which gave them an MTN8 ticket.
“Welcome to Young Africans head coach Manqoba Mngqithi,” Yanga confirmed on their official Social Media page.
Mngqithi’s arrival spells the end for AbdulHamid Maalin, who was serving on an interim basis in the wake of Goncalves’ exit. The experienced South African will now be aiming at strengthening the East African side to deliver domestically and in the CAF Champions League.
Interestingly, Manqoba and Barker will now be facing each other in Tanzania’s biggest fixture, the Kariakoo Derby featuring Simba and Yanga – which is an equivalent of the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
