Mark the dates for classic Soweto Derby! Winner to play international team

Football-loving fans in South Africa will be treated to an entertaining Soweto Derby in February.

The fixture, which has been organised by Puzzle Pictures, will involve the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates legends. The winner will play an international legends team in April.

As confirmed, the legend’s Soweto Derby will be played on February 7 at Ellis Park Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung is happy with the arrangement and has warned their opponent that they already have a strong line-up in place for the fixture.

“We thank Puzzle Pictures for the invitation and we are looking ahead to this game, knowing that a win will give our legends the chance to take on some of their international legendary peers,”she said as quoted by the Chiefs’ media team.

“Every derby at any level always throws up a great spectacle and this one will be no different. We have an exciting line up and we are looking to thoroughly entertain the fans,” she concluded.

What coach Mooki and ex-defender Gould said

“We have played in many derbies previously and know how big this game is for the fans,” Amakhosi Legends coach Thabo Mooki stated.

“For us, this is a semi-final and we’ll treat it as such. We want our fans to see us face the best players in the world and to do that we need to claim bragging rights over Pirates, which we will aim to do,” he further stated.

Former defender Morgan Gould explained why this fixture is emotional, “As a player, when I faced Pirates in the Derby it was very emotional.

“It is no different now. We want our fans to be happy, and that can only come if we win this game,” he concluded.
