Mayo fires warning to Percy Tau & Al Ahly with hot scoring streak

Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo is hitting form just at the right time for his Algerian club CR Belouizdad ahead of their CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly.

Mayo scored his second goal in three games on Tuesday as CR Belouizdad thrashed JS Saoura 3-0 to move up to seventh place on the log with 16 points from 10 matches.

The former Cape Town City man put the gloss on the scoreline as he netted the third goal in the 57th minute after Abderrahmane Bentahar and Aimen Mahious had given the home side a 2-0 lead inside 52 minutes.

Mayo received a sublime pass after making a good run towards the goal as Belouizdad launched a counterattack and he tapped into an empty net after the Saora goalkeeper had already committed.

How has Mayo performed in Algeria?

The goal brings the striker’s tally to two in his last three matches after getting on the scoresheet when his team lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in their Champions League group opener late last month.

Mayo has taken time to adapt to life in Algeria but seems to be finding his feet just at the right time when the busy schedule has kicked in and his good run in front of goal will leave Bafana Bafana team-mate Percy Tau and his Al Ahly colleagues with something to think about.

Belouizdad face Al Ahly in the Champions League on Sunday December 22 and the Algerian giants will be pinning their hopes on the striker to deliver a second straight win after their victory over Stade d’Abidjan on December 7.

Mayo has made 11 appearances for the club since his transfer from Cape Town before the start of this season, managing the two goals.
