Mayo not giving up on wish to see son play for Soweto giants

Bafana Bafana international Khanyisa Mayo is now getting it right at his Algerian side CR Belouizdad after a poor start.

In his first seven games, the former Cape Town City striker struggled to score despite being in good positions. However, he has three goals and an assist in his last five games across all competitions.

The last outing was last weekend against Percy Tau's Al Ahly in Group C's Caf Champions League outing, a fixture the defending champions won 6-1 whereby the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker scored and assisted.

Prior to his move to North Africa, Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs were keen on landing the 26-year-old versatile attacker.

Patrick Mayo reveals his wish

Former Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Mayo has not given up on seeing his son playing for the Glamour Boys in future.

“I give him my blessing [playing for Kaizer Chiefs in the future]. However, we don’t know what the future holds for him,” he opened up to Far Post.

“In football any move is possible, you cannot predict where someone will end up playing for which side. I personally love the club [Chiefs], I played there and I got recognized because of them. It’s such a big institution in the country.

“I know a lot about them, so if he ends up there, I would help him a lot because of the knowledge and the background that I have about the team,” Mayo concluded.

Under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to finish off the many chances they create. In the January transfer window, the former AS FAR Rabat coach has put it clear he wants to sign an established striker.
