Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mandla Zwane has seconded Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos on Mbekezeli Mbokazi making a move to Europe.
The 19-year-old has been a factor at his club and the national team, producing a high-level display consistently. Recently, he stopped seasoned Nigeria attackers to help South Africa get a point in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Zwane believes the teenager is ripe for the big move and will surely excel if given a chance, since he has everything needed to be successful.
‘Look at Yamal!'

“I believe Mbokazi is ready to go to Europe right now. He will continue to mature with time. Just look at Lamine Yamal, who was only 15 or 16 when he played for the first team [Barcelona’],” he told Kick-Off.
“There won't be a language barrier for Mbokazi in Europe because football speaks a universal language. As long as he maintains his determination, he will succeed anywhere. He has already demonstrated his ability by moving from KZN to Johannesburg.
“Being in an unfamiliar environment motivates you to take your work seriously, and adjusting to a new setting shouldn't be a concern. I was quite young when I left South Africa to go overseas, but I adapted well,” Zwane added.
‘Mbokazi can fit at Manchester United'
“Given the current situation at Manchester United, Mbokazi could easily fit into their line-up,” the former midfielder continued.

“However, the English Premier League tends to favour taller centre-backs, so he might excel more in countries like Spain, Portugal, and France, where shorter players are often used. Moreover, he is still young and has time on his side, which means he will refine his skills as he gains experience.
“If you can play for your senior national team, then you’re certainly capable of competing anywhere. I fully agree with coach Broos that Mbokazi should make the move to Europe. The boy is ready,” Zwane concluded.
